The Salvation Army hosted the first BaconFest Omaha Sunday afternoon at the Kroc Center.
Activities included Omaha area bands, vendor booths, a bacon-cooking competition and children's play area. "I'd have to go with the cinnamon roll, just really sweet, really good and you add bacon on anything and it's amazing,” said bacon lover Luke Cerveny.
The Farmland Bacon Cook-Off Best in Show was Doug Trammel, representing the Kroc Center. His dish was braised bacon herb and bourbon creme sauce.
Best in the sweet category was also Trammel with Perry Kudlacek representing the Eastern Nebraska Veterans Home coming in second with his maple bacon cinnamon rolls.
Best in the savory category went to Glenn Wheeler with Spencer's in Omaha for his Korean barbecue pork belly. Jon Rea of M's Pub was second for his cocoa chili rubbed pork belly.
The People's Choice was given to Kudlacek with Wheeler coming in second.
All proceeds from the event go toward scholarship memberships to the Kroc Center, given to families in need. WOWT is a proud sponsor of BaconFest.
