WOWT is proud to partner with the Heartland Chapter of the American Red Cross for Red Cross Month. It's a time to remind residents in Nebraska and Southwest Iowa of the work the American Red Cross does in communities across the country and around the globe.
March was first proclaimed Red Cross Month in 1943 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Since then, President Obama and every other president have designated March as Red Cross Month.
In Omaha, the Red Cross is kicking off the celebrations with the Heroes in the Heartland luncheon on March 13th at the Embassy Suites in La Vista. Several individuals will be honored for their heroic contributions to our community. Several of their stories are posted on WOWT.com.
Thanks to the generous support of people in this country, the American Red Cross is able to respond to disasters both large and small; help members of the military, veterans and their families; provide blood for those in need and teach lifesaving skills. Here in the metro area, the Red Cross assisted with over 600 local disasters in 2012.
You can help by making a donation, becoming a volunteer, taking a class, or giving blood. For more information, click on the appropriate link below.
