WOWT 6 News Holiday Food Drive

Saturday, Dec. 7th

8 a.m.- Noon

51st & Center HyVee & Shadow Lake Towne Center HyVee in Papillion

The WOWT NBC Omaha Holiday Food Drive is back! We hope you'll join us on Saturday, December 7, from to noon, and help pack the trucks full of food.

WOWT 6 News anchors will be on hand to take donations and load the trucks, provided by Two Men and a Truck, in the HyVee parking lot at 51st and Center and the HyVee in Papillion, at Shadow Lake Towne Center.

All proceeds will benefit the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry at 21st and Leavenworth. In both October and November, the pantry served record numbers of people - more than 1,600 each month. The pantry is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Executive Director Anne Severes said, "The dollar is not stretching like it used to, and with recent food stamp cuts, people are really scrambling the last week of the month. Lots and lots of elderly on fixed incomes come to us to fill in the gaps."

Severes added that the pantry is on target to exceed the 17,000 it served in 2012.

The following items are the basic staples provided in pantry bags and, often, in short supply:

  • Canned Fruit
  • Canned tomato products
  • Peanut Butter
  • Canned vegetables especially carrots, peas and mixed vegetables
  • Double roll toilet paper
  • Rice
  • Monetary donations for fresh meat and milk

Monetary donations can be made online at:

Checks can also be sent to:
St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry
    P.O. Box 241201
    Omaha, NE 68124

Since 2011, the WOWT NBC Omaha Holiday Food Drive has provided nearly 20,000 pounds of food to help stock the shelves at St. Vincent de Paul.
