March for Babies

Tracy Madden and all of us at Channel 6 For the Heartland invite you to come out Sunday April 25th to Mahoney State Park and March For Babies.

Join 4,000 people in marching for healthy babies and enjoy….

  • Entertainment – Visit the Big Top filled with children games, clowns, lunch provided by Hy Vee, Union Pacific train rides, LifeNet helicopter tours and more.

  • Exercise – Take a three-mile scenic walk and enjoy fresh air in beautiful Mahoney State Park, and receive free goodies along the way from area businesses. Added in 2010 will be a treasure hunt along the walk.

  • Education - Receive health information from various health care facilities, visit the Mission Tent provided by the mission families of March of Dimes.

New this year is a Scavenger Hunt the day of the walk with Great Prizes!!

Participating in March for Babies is a great way to celebrate the babies and children in your lives and the lives of your co-workers.

Raising Funds to Provide:
  • March for Babies takes place in more than 900 communities across the country.
  • More than half a million people take part in the event.
  • That’s 1 million shoes being laced up for babies!
  • We’ve been walking since 1970 and have raised an incredible $2.1 billion to benefit all babies.
  • 62 babies are born very preterm (less than 32 weeks)
  • Nine babies are born preterm
    (less than 37 weeks)
  • 34 babies are born low birth weight
    (less than five pounds)
  • Six babies are born very low birth weight
    (less than 3.33 pounds)
  • Preconception and prenatal education for women and families
  • Community grants to support maternal/child services
  • Standardized newborn screening tests given to all infants to save babies from treatable illnesses
  • Fortification of bread and cereal and other grains to reduce birth defects of the brain and spine
