Severe Winter Weather

The winter season can be filled with fun for the whole family. Yet danger lurks when a winter storm hits. Blizzards, rain, sleet, freezing temperatures, and wind speeds can put a damper on any family outing, or traveling adventure.

Not only can winter storms be dangerous, but they can also be deceiving. Even a small amount of snow or rain can cause problems, especially in areas where precipitation of this kind is unusual. Slippery road conditions can result in accidents and fatalities. Ice storms or heavy, wet snow can cause power outages and downed trees and power lines.

Do you know the differences between types of wintry precipitation, such as freezing rain, sleet, and snow? If you’re unsure of the different types of precipitation most common in the winter season, visit Weather.com for an explanation of each.
