New Insurance Requirements for Birth Control
It's part of a big expansion of coverage for women's preventive care under President Barack Obama's health care law.

most insurance 'plans' are written by the employers now and the insurance companies only handle the administrative work( paying claims, handling appeals, etc). As I understand the law( and could be wrong) the employer has the option to include or not include coverage for whatever they want.Or, is this law going to be similar to the Women's Health and Cancer Rights Act of 1998? Some clarification would be nice

The government has no legal right or moral obligation to mettle in the private affairs of an individual or to private choice. Making insurance companies to require the coverage of birth control is wrong and goes against all American values.

Hum, I'll pay for the birth control, if you start paying for the kids you make when you don't use it, but I don't feel I should pay for both!

Irreversible surgical sterilization is the only birth control that taxpayers should be robbed to provide, and it should be a precondition of any "need" based, taxpayer-funded assistance.

Why are so many of you angry! I think this is good. Afterall, most insurances may find that it is cheaper to provide the contraceptive than to fork out the money for pregancy, childbirth, and then the child thereafter. So, it doesn't mean insurance will go up. And for those of you complaining, many of us pay for people who don't take care of themselves physically, gain weight, become diabetic, etc etc. So you pay for someone like that but you don't want to pay the cost to prevent unwanted pregancies? You better recalculate.

Okay, everyone griping about "having to pay for other people's birth control" - where do you think your tax dollars are going right now? A good portion goes to pay for welfare and child health care for people without insurance. Paying for birth control is a heckuva lot cheaper than paying for all the expenses associated with raising a child. For those saying "don't do the deed if you don't have birth control", that's already happening, in case you hadn't noticed. Making pregnancy prevention more available just might actually reduce the number of babies being born to mothers who are unable or unwilling to care for them properly.

If you are prescribed oral contraceptives to serve as hormone regulation for suspected endometrial cancer, my insurance doesn't cover it.

I have trouble believing that some women will actually be reliable with their birth control. If it takes any effort, some gals won't do it. Otherwise, given the Viagra example, I am in favor of it.

Pay for pills now or pay for 50 years of prison later for the result of a failed socialist program. Hmmm?

Just the beginning of the Obamacare nightmare. Just wait until 2013 when this mess kicks in. Taxes through the roof (for those of us who actually work), fees for everything you do, share the wealth, uncontrolled spending, a real socialist welfare state. Go Tea Party.

I knew before I came to comments that there would be people crabbing about this. Let anything get done that benefits women and you people all want to have a fit. If these women have insurance, for which they pay premiums, how are they hurting you people. Oh I know, because it's for women!!!

Not everyone on birth control is someone who does not have insurance, nor are they worthless members of society either. After my first child I was on Birth control for seven years until me and my husband were ready to have our second child. I had surgery to make certain that our family would not grow any more but the surgery only complicated things and now I may need to be on them again for medical reasons. My husband loses a good sum of money paying for our health insurance through his work, much more then I will use in bc pills and any doctor visits. We pay for our health insurance that we rarely use, and for people to automatically think that birthcontrol is always used by lazy women who don't want to work and pay for those pills is insulting.

It's about time. Insurance companies are a good old boys club. It should not surprise anyone that they immediately started to cover viagra for men, but it has taken this long for them to cover birth control for women. What's even more amazing they would cover tubal ligations but were not covering birth control.

If all the libs would use the free birth control, that would be a net gain for everyone.
