Grilling season is here but did you know it can actually put your family at risk? Marilyn Wadum has details of that and more in this month's Food for Thought Mailbag.

Marilyn says, "The charcoal on a grill does give off products that get into meat and changes the meat's surface that would make it more high risk for cancer. We suggest precooking meat in part and finishing it on the grill for a little flavor."

Elsewhere on the health front, Marilyn says, "We do have anti-inflammatory foods which means those reduce heart disease, cancer, and diabetes and they come from plant sources so fruits, vegetables, all whole grains, and especially dark colors like tomatoes and broccoli."

Many have noticed the flavanoid labels on tea. Do we really need to count flavanoids?

Marilyn says. "Tea is an excellent source of flavanoids which is an antioxidant, but we don't have to measure the amount in a serving. What we say is to have at least three cups of tea a day."

Yogurt is the latest product with fiber added to eat. Is it something we should eat?

Marilyn says, "The fiber added to yogurt is a great source of high fiber. We need it to decrease our risk of cancer, especially colon cancer and some heart disease, so to get it from a yogurt product would be excellent."
