Don't know what to get mom for Mother's Day? If she likes candy or jewelry, this may not be for her. But if she's more practical, our nutrition expert says one kitchen gadget could be a perfect fit.

Registered Dietitian Marilyn Wadum says, "It may be a busy time, but there are some things we can do to control our time, our activities, and our meals. We have a gadget called the Food Vacuum System and it helps to take air out of food while it saves it.

"By removing air, it helps to keep the product fresh longer, up to five times longer than conventional storage."

"One of the biggest concerns now is the high cost of groceries. Buy in bulk, take food home and package in small amounts, put in the fridge or freezer and save time and money.

"When you're coming home from work just grab a package of food, drop it in boiling water or put it in the microwave and you already have half the meal ready to eat.

"Also portion control -- many of us need to watch what we eat and can't eat just one, so it's a great way to portion out cookies and freeze for later.

"So if it's for convenience, or saving money, or a fresher product, you might consider buying one of these, too."
