Heart disease is the number-one killer of women in this country, accounting for 1 million deaths annually.

Unlike men, women don't always experience obvious signs of heart trouble. Experts say the warning signs of a heart attack, while subtle, should not be ignored.

Dr. Valerie Kwai Ben is a cardiologist who says, "Those symptoms can be generalized fatigue, or tiredness, not feeling well, perhaps feeling short of breath when you walk. So clearly, not the typical symptoms that we usually hear of that are more common in men."

Other symptoms of heart attack in women include chest pressure; neck pain; indigestion; nausea and vomiting.

To guard against trouble regular exercise should be coupled with a diet including fruits and vegetables. Be sure to see your doctor once a year to get your cholesterol and blood pressure checked.
