The FCC says there have been recent reports that some commuters on trains and buses use cell phone jamming devices to block conversations of fellow riders.
The device can block, jam, or interfere with authorized communications on cell phones and GPS devices.
The FCC has a zero tolerance policy and says it will take aggressive action against violators.
Marketing, selling, or operating such a device in punishable by a fine up to $16,000 for each violation, seizure of the equipment and possible jail time.
