New technology may eliminate the need to "pre-pay" if you want to use cash at the gas station.
According to Consumer Reports, a program called "post-pay" lets you swipe your driver's license to unlock the pump.
The inventor, an oil company president, says the license information "cannot" be seen by employees and isn't recorded.
But it will be forwarded to the police for anyone who tries to "pump and run."
Two Michigan gas stations are testing the technology.
