Women put their fingers on the pulse of the economy, buying nail polish.
Nail polish sales jumped almost 60% in the first ten months of this year over 2010.
That's according to the market research firm "NDP Group."
The trend suggests women are trying to save money with self-manicures, skipping the salon.
But even salon managers say customers who "are" coming in are looking to save, opting for longer-lasting manicures to cut back on visits.
