Millions of eligible borrowers are passing up the chance to possibly win restitution on their foreclosures.
According to the office of the comptroller of currency, less than 165,000 people had applied by the end of April to have their foreclosures checked for mistakes.
That's only about four percent of the more than four million people who received letters about the free reviews late last year.
Since so few have responded, another mailing will go out to households in early June...reminding them of the July 31st deadline.
Restitution could run from several hundred dollars to more than $100,000.
