Tick-Tock Tech

The World Wide Web is on the move. A new service lets you take your phones and laptops anywhere with a high speed connection.

Verizon Wireless rolled out the service Monday with demonstrations of its new V CAST and broadband access.

Verizon's Tim Peters demonstrated Internet access saying, "The download speeds that you are typically going to experience with our broadband access service are going to be very similar to the types of speeds you get at home with a DSL connection or a cable connection."

The technology allows users to do things on the move that you used to be tied to a PC to do.

Verizon's broadband service reaches throughout Omaha and Council Bluffs and approximately 180 other cities across the country.

Of course everything comes with a cost. The PC cards range anywhere from $50 to $180. Then there is monthly service. That runs $60 to $80. For the phones: Internet, video and music costs around $15 a month.

Competition is out there. Sprint has a very similar service in our area, with similar costs.
