Hundreds of students chose a healthy way to help other kids who are sick. Instead of walking to school they ran around it Friday to raise money.
Brownell-Talbot students of all ages obtained pledges to walk or run anywhere from two-and-a-half to five kilometers in the vicinity of the school near 55th and Underwood. School staff and parents joined in the event as 500 crossed the finished line and received medals for their efforts.
“We're hoping it will not only benefit students in terms of financial aid and needs to study here, but also a $10,000 grant to help children and families at Children's Hospital that might have some financial needs,” said school administrator Silvia Rodriguez Vargas.
Most of the participants either walked or ran around Memorial Park. They raised about $20,000 to be split between scholarships and donations to Children’s Hospital and Medical Center.
