A security guard can be an imposing figure just about anywhere and at first glance you'd think that would be the case in the hallways of Omaha’s Buffett Magnet Middle School.
But when you hear Dan Patterson interact with students you realize they relate to him. "How are things going today buddy?" This former Marine and firefighter heads up security at Buffett Magnet near 141st and Larimore. He uses his past experience to encourage students in a positive way.
“When I joined the Marine Corps I think I believed everything that they taught me and then I kind of applied that when I got on the fire department and then both of those things carried on to my job here. Basically what they taught me that when someone's in trouble that needs help that you do whatever you can to help.”
Patterson has been at Buffett for nine years. He credits the entire staff for their work with the students.
