Council Bluffs Public Schools are promoting the importance of financial literacy and good attendance.

Thursday morning, the Rue Elementary School branch of TS Bank is opening to receive student savings deposits. Fourteen fifth-grade student tellers will assist their peers each week as they learn about the value of saving money. School, community and bank officials will be present for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the school located at 3326 6th Avenue.

Friday morning, Iowa Lt. Governor Kim Reynolds will be at Longfellow Elementary School for a balloon release by students and teachers to promote school attendance and how it relates to academic success.

Ms. Reynolds is a champion for the National Campaign for Grade Level Reading initiative, which focuses on regular school attendance as one of the key factors for children being able to read at the expected grade level by the end of third grade.

Longfellow Elementary is located at 2011 South 10th Street.
