Hundreds of students from across the Omaha metro area were recognized Wednesday for their hard work in the classroom.
A total of 406 eighth graders from 60 schools were honored at the Centurylink Center during the 86th annual Rotory Honor Roll Luncheon.
WOWT's own John Knicely emceed the event.
Each of the students is selected by their school based on a number of qualities.
“We ask them to nominate students based on their honor, their presence, their scholarship, their leadership abilities,” said Gretchen Bren, Executive Director of Omaha's Downtown Rotary Club. “And really the most important of those is their leadership ability.”
Some high school students were also honored at the luncheon. Eight 10th graders received service awards from the Better Business Bureau. And six seniors were given college scholarships.
