A boy's love of the outdoors is getting him places. Papillion Patriot Elementary School second-grader Burke Brickner has been chosen to represent Nebraska in the national Doodle 4 Google contest.
The winner chosen from all 50 state entries will get his or her artwork posted on Google's homepage and win a $30,000 scholarship. Burke's artwork is entitled "Fish Tales With My Dad.”
“I do love fishing with my dad and I knew everybody was going to do like Florida and stuff like that so I tried to pick something different and something that I love as well, so I just like fishing with my dad."
Burke’s father is in the Air Force. “He was gone for 14 months and he came back for 10 days in the middle of the year and I asked him, can we go fishing and he was well, sure. So we go fishing and camping and we had a good time."
Burke will go to New York where the national winner will be announced. The contest is now in the hands of online users. You may vote for the 7-year-old’s artwork at
google.com until 10:59 a.m. on May 10th.
