Nearly 60 eighth-grade students from 28 schools across Nebraska are attending the University of Nebraska Medical Center's Health Science Meet.
The educational event began Thursday and runs through Saturday, exposing students to the health professions, medical research and patient care. Events include presentations on variety of health science disciplines, tours of UNMC, interactive health science activities and a team science competition.
The goal is to inspire students - especially those from rural communities - to seek careers in health care. Students qualify for the meet by submitting science projects in seven regional science meets held across the state earlier in the year.
Activities include learning about and getting inside a hyperbaric oxygen chamber, learning about good food choices, and viewing a demonstration of patient simulators in a clinical skills lab.
