Nebraska State Treasurer Don Stenberg and First National Bank of Omaha announced the winners of the third annual “NEST On The Farm” scholarship contest Wednesday at Husker Harvest Days in Grand Island.
Three first-place winners each received a $3,500 contribution to a NEST Direct College Savings Plan while three runners-up each received a $1,000 contribution to a NEST Direct College Savings Plan. Stenberg is trustee of the Nebraska Educational Savings Trust, Nebraska’s state-sponsored college savings program.
Children of Nebraska farming families were invited to submit essays describing what farming means in their lives and how growing up in farm families influences their higher education goals.
Entries were divided into three age groups: 7-9, 10-11 and 12-13.
Winner - Landri Loos, Litchfield, age 8
Runner-up – Madyson Sievers, Wayne, age 9
Winner – Allison Rippe, Indianola, age 10
Runner-up – Sophia Harder, Belden, age 11
Winner – Leigh Jahnke, Bancroft, age 13
Runner-up – Abby Hadenfeldt, Cairo, age 13
