Me and my fellow Gen Xers had teen flicks like “The Breakfast Club,” “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” and “Ferris Bueller's Day Off.” What do the teens in 2013 have? One film, “The Spectacular Now,” appears to be a tad bit deeper than those '80s flicks.
It’s now open at Film Streams, 1340 Mike Fahey St., and features a young cast in a thoughtful and compelling story.
Now, granted, I've only watched the 2-minute trailer, which you can see by clicking on the link below. But I'm compelled by what I've seen.
The film stars Miles Teller as a high school senior, a charmer – the life of the party – who falls in love with the "nice girl," played by Aimee Fineky. From there, the passion of youth takes over and the two go on a journey of love and self discovery. Like I said, the trailer is intriguing.
