When you see Rob Lowe riding a pair of great white sharks while feeding chum to an assortment of high-flying maneaters with a sexy mermaid in tow, it can only mean one thing. It's "Shark Week."

As Lowe coolly says in the Discovery Channel's 30-second "Shark Week" teaser, "So sharky." So sharky indeed, Rob, so sharky indeed.

Since the summer of 1987, Discovery has presented a week full of non-stop shark features with increasingly amazing views of the misunderstood beasts of the sea. And I love it.

This year, with Discovery taking GoPros to places they've never been, it promises to be more adventurous than ever. Shows with titles like "Sharkageddon," "Zombie Sharks," "Lair of the Mega Shark" and "Monster Hammerhead" fill a week of shark specials that draw viewers by the boatloads.

The fun begins at 7 p.m. Sunday, August 10th. Want to get jazzed up for "Shark Week"? Click here to see him ride sharks (mega-epic music included). Keep watching as there is another version featuring Andy Samberg as "Bob the Shark." Good stuff.

Meanwhile, over at the Henry Doorly Zoo, the team there is gearing up for its own "Shark Week." There will be special presentations from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday (August 9th and 10th) with giveaways and educational activities for kids of all ages.
