What: Screening of “He Who Gets Slapped” featuring the Alloy Orchestra
When: 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5
Where: Film Streams, 1340 Mike Fahey St.
Back no doubt by popular demand, the Alloy Orchestra will be in Omaha on SATURDAY (Oct. 5) to play a one-night-stand at Film Streams, 1340 Mike Fahey St.
This time around, the group – featuring an inventive mix of accordion, musical saw, clarinet, keyboards, and what the ensemble calls other "junk" – will perform their music to the 1924 silent film “He Who Gets Slapped,” starring Lon Chaney, Norma Shearer and John Gilbert.
The plot to the movie is really secondary to this special event. It's the fascinating and entertaining music of the Alloy Orchestra (pictured at right) that will drive this evening. Featuring Roger Miller – who is a member of art-punk band Mission of Burma – on keys, the Cambridge, Mass.-based group has been performing together since 1990.
You can get a sample of the group's music by clicking on the audio link below. Tickets for the 7 p.m. screening are $12.
