What: Creedence Clearwater Revisited, with the Guess Who
When: 7 p.m. Friday, August 23
Where: Ralston Arena, 73rd and Q streets
My childhood BFF and I had a tradition during our summer rafting trips down the Mighty Mo – we always began the 10-hour float trips by playing Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Proud Mary" on my old cassette-playing beat-up boom box. That line about "rollin' on the river" really got us jacked up for those lazy college summer river rides.
Which brings me to the concert Friday (August 23) at the 4,000-seat Ralston Arena, 73rd and Q streets, featuring CCR's offshoot Creedence Clearwater Revisited. Maybe you didn't raft down the Missouri River listening to CCR, but if you're like me, there's a Creedence song that holds a special place in your heart. And I can't wait to hear the band play that song live.
Sure, John Fogerty isn't a part of this band, and that's fine. Original bassist Stu Cook and drummer Doug "Cosmo" Clifford – the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame rhythm section from CCR – bring the hits, and bring them well. "Susie Q," "Bad Moon Rising," "Fortunate Son," "Run Through the Jungle" – is anyone else getting goose bumps? Who's with me? Let's hit the show Friday and take a trip down the Missouri. Come on, we'll "streak through the quad" on the way – I'll meet you there.
Opening the 7 p.m. show will be another classic rock group, the Guess Who ("American Woman," No Sugar Tonight," "These Eyes"). Tickets for the 7 p.m. show are $29 to $49, and are available via ralstonarena.com (402-934-9966).
Oh, and BTW, WE HAVE FREE TICKETS!!!
We're giving away 3 sets of tickets to the show. Just go to our Facebook page (facebook.com/mingedispatch) to enter to win. We’ll announce the winners on Friday after lunch.
