The people have spoken: Purveyors of the Conscious Sound were chosen last month by popular vote in a battle of the bands format to be the opening band for this year's Maha Music Festival, which takes place on August 17 at Stinson Park, Aksarben Village.
Why Purveyors of the Conscious Sound? Because the Omaha band kicks eardrums. You can hear for yourself on Tuesday, July 9, when the band plays a FREE show at the Waiting Room, 6212 Maple St. I'm still grooving on the hip-hop group's song "Ketchup," the video of which can be seen below (just click on the link).
To my ears, there's a streak of the Beastie Boys, but with a completely contemporary and fresh twist from DJ Boony Tunes, Dawscyclops and Topic aka Papa Topic, with a female piece that brings it all home from Liz Graham. She really knocks it out of the park on "Ketchup."
Getting the music on a roll beginning at 9 p.m. will be Funk Trek and Midtown Marauders.
