What: “The Painting”
When: 4:15 p.m. Thursday, July 11
Where: Film Streams, 1340 Mike Fahey St.
The discerning critics over at RottenTomatoes.com love this animated flick called “The Painting,” which opened last weekend at Film Streams, 1340 Mike Fahey St.
Wryly inventive, this parable focuses on a kingdom within a painting that is divided into three classes: impeccably painted Alldunns who reside in a majestic palace; the Halfies who the Painter has left incomplete; and the untouchable Sketchies, simple charcoal outlines who are banished to the cursed forest.
(Did anyone else just think of the Star-Belly Sneeches? With their snoots in the air, sniffing and snorting and having nothing to do with the Plain-Belly sorts? Just me? Okay.)
Forbidden love, a journey through a forest, and some rather clever storytelling put this film in my queue. The trailer is fun to watch, and cements the deal for me. You can see the clip by clicking on the video link below.
