I'm usually opposed to cloning. There are some people whom I can hardly stomach one of, let alone two (Justin Bieber, Kayne West, Miley Cyrus, Flo from the Progressive commercials, etc.).

But there's one day each year when I wish I could clone four or five me's so I could attend all of the cork-poppin' events that are offered on a any given New Year's Eve.

This year is no exception – the docket is chock-full of entertaining 2013 send-offs. For those venturing out on this, one of the wildest nights of the year, here are a few events that have my attention:

New Year's Eve Fireworks Spectacular, 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, Gene Leahy Mall, 14th and Farnam streets – As one of the largest New Year's Eve fireworks displays in the region, this is a great way to kick off the evening with a bang. Join about 30,000 people and oooh and ahhh your way into 2014.

The Creighton Bluejays make their Big East debut in style with a 9 p.m. New Year's Eve game against Marquette at the CenturyLink Center, 455 N. 10th St. This one will be a doozy, and is easily the hottest ticket in town. If you want to join the 18,000-plus who will be celebrating a Happy Blue Year on Tuesday, Dec. 31, Ticket Express ( still has lower bowl and club seats available for the game (402-398-1999).

Dance Parties: Happy Goo Year, 9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, the Slowdown, 729 N. 14th St. ($20-$75) - OR - Crown Royal Presents New Year's Eve 2014 with Driickly Graham, NZ Tante, DJ Wreckafekt, and others, 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, Ralston Arena, 73rd and Q streets ($30-$80). - OR - New Year's Eve Through the Looking Glass, 9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, House of Loom, 1012 S. 10th St. ($10-$15). Three BIG dance parties with DJs, three great ways to drop the bass on 2013 and ring in 2014.

First Night, a New Year's Eve celebration of the arts throughout Council Bluffs. Musicians, performance art, artistic displays and more at a number of indoor venues in downtown Council Bluffs. Goes from 4:30-10:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 31. $10 admission buttons, get them online at
