“We’re in the business of expression, promoting diversity, expanding Omaha's culture and creating a sanctuary of open-minded people – and you all have answered our call," says the event listing on Facebook for the House of Loom's celebration of the 8th anniversary of "loom," which in its simplest form is a dance party. But as anyone who has attended any one of the more than 100 "loom" gatherings can attest, it's so much more than that. "loom" is a hodge-podge of DJ mixes, live drumming, eating, drinking, free-spirited dancing, colorful dress, body painting, balloons, confetti, and colorful people with a rainbow of colorful skin – all of which are depicted in the images above from previous "loom" events, which began in Benson and have since moved to the Old Market area where the 2-and-a-half-year-old House of Loom club resides.
HOL's resident DJs Kethro, Brent Crampton and Stephen Bils will spin a mix of global soul, funk, disco, Afro, Latin, and other enticing grooves on Friday. Expect good-time, feel-good vibes.
