Hot off the release of their new album, Wig Out at Jagbags, indie rock god Stephen Malkmus and his band the Jicks will bring their latest tour to the Waiting Room on SUNDAY (Feb. 16).
Indie fans will remember Malkmus as the lead singer-guitarist for Pavement, arguably the most popular indie rock band in the 1990s. But Malkmus has been rocking with the Jicks since the 2001 release of Stephen Malkmus. In fact, as of the release of Wig Out at Jagbags, Malkmus has now released more albums with the Jicks than with Pavement.
For those who have come to love Malkmus' lyrical puzzles, filled with irony and satire, the new ditties carry familiar tones of alt-country, folk and pop-rock, with a dash of soulful R&B. Pretentious hipster fodder? Oh, absolutely. But that's the appeal. That makes it fun. And the new tunes are stellar.
