There's been a lot of so-called "one-man bands" throughout music history, but I can guarantee you've never seen one like That 1 Guy. This dude is nuts. Figuratively, of course, but maybe literally, too. But I'm no doctor, so ...
But I am a musicologist and I'm predicting That 1 Guy, aka Mike Silverman, will put on a show WEDNESDAY (March 19) at the Waiting Room that will be talked about for years to come.
That 1 Guy, who often shares the stage with experimental guitarist Buckethead, plays a homemade tubular contraption he calls a "magic pipe" that has a series of metal pipes and guitar pick-ups and wires and sound effect doohickeys and lots of other stuff that I can't begin to explain. It's connected to drums, a giant saw and other noise-makers.
Look, I could keep going trying to describe his sound and what he does in a live setting, but you're better off watching him perform. Check out the link at right to see That 1 Guy play "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" using his magic pipe, that giant saw and what I believe is a cello bow. If that flips your pancake, try another one, called "Mustaches," by clicking on his image at top.
If you're still watching, then I'd suggest going to the show.
