What: Andrew W. K.
When: 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18
Where: Sokol Underground, 13th and Martha streets
When I was searching the Internets for images of everyman rocker Andrew W.K., - who performs at the Sokol Underground, 13th and Martha streets, on Wednesday, Sept. 18 – I stumbled across this amazing website that archives photos of rock stars with cats.
I know, right? Freaking awesome! Rock stars - love them. And cats - like them, too (I would like them more if they weren't so purposely pretentious, but that's not important right now). What's important is that you can see these two – rockers and cats – together. What genius created this awesome website? There's a photo of Kurt Cobain ... with a cat. A photo of Joey Ramone ... with a cat. And Madonna ... with a cat. You get the idea. For more, click on the link below.
Normally, Andrew W.K. looks like the second photo, above. And that's how he'll most likely look during his 8 p.m. performance on Wednesday. The guy likes to rock out. And party, too. He really likes to party. Consider a few of his song titles: "It's Time to Party," "Party Hard," and "Long Live the Party."
Born Andrew Fetterly Wilkes-Krier in Southern California in 1979, Andrew W.K. is also pretty funny. His sense of humor during appearances on Conan and various guest spots on news shows, including a one-time run as weatherman for Fox News, are entertaining. You can get a taste of what he's serving by checking out the video to "Party Hard." Just click on the YouTube icon at right to see it.
If that flips your pancake, $20 will get you in the door to see his 8 p.m. solo show on Wednesday. Get tickets at ticketmaster.com (800-745-3000).
