Groundhog Prom ... that annual incubator for the bizarre; a yearly freak fest for adults; a night custom-made for irreverent dress and behavior; an event ... well, you get the idea.
Groundhog Day is on Sunday, which means Omaha's infamous Groundhog Prom is coming, too. On SATURDAY (Feb. 1), the unabashedly tacky formal costume ball will take place at the Sokol Auditorium, 13th and Martha streets. It's the 36th annual edition – this year's theme is the NSA and the selfie.
A couple of Omaha's longstanding party bands – the Linoma Mashers and the Bishops – will provide island-flavored and ska beats, respectively, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
There will be the usual costume prizes awarded for a variety of categories (see examples above), including the ultimate Groundhog Prom declaration of king and queen.
Tickets are $8 in advance, $10 at the door. It's a 21 and over affair. Get more info at the event's Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Groundhog-Prom/224191593531)
