I've always warmed to the pop-punk ditties of Blink 182 and Green Day, so naturally I like Direct Hit! – a foursome that will headline a four-band bill on MONDAY (Feb. 3) at the Sweatshop, 2727 N. 62nd St., in Benson.
If you're a fan of punk rock, this show will be the spatula that flips your pancake.
Headlining the show is Direct Hit!, which features musicians from Milwaukee and Chicago. These dudes worship Andrew WK, the Ramones and the Thermals, which should give you a pretty good indication as to what you're in for. I've been rocking out to their tunes all week, and I'm certain that their live show is going to be worth the price of admission ($10).
Check out their blistering guitars and punkified vocals on the video to "Satan Says," which is absolutely irreverent, and probably sacrilegious, too. Click on the link at right to see it.
Also playing Monday is the Super Bowl-ready Colorado band Elway, a punk band whose name is not cool with Denver Bronco legend John Elway. But guess what? The band doesn't care, and so they have kept the name. How very punk.
Rounding out the bill are Omaha's Müshmouth and Manic Pixie Dream Girls (think Sleater-Kinney or the Donnas).
The banging of the heads, and the subsequent pumping of the fists, begins at 7 p.m.
