The citywide art love fest known as First Friday will be extra lively for December in Benson where, along with the usual array of new exhibits and art-related events, there will be a special music showcase spotlighting local musicians and bands as part of an Omaha Arts & Entertainment Awards showcase.
Set to perform at the Waiting Room, 6212 Maple St., beginning at 7 p.m. FRIDAY (Dec. 6) are John Klemmensen & the Party, Josh Hoyer & the Shadowboxers, the Whipkey Three, Steve Raybine, Matt Cox Band, Cochance, All Young Girls Are Machine Guns, and the Electroliners. Cover is $10.
IN CASE YOU'RE ON THE FENCE - GO! ARE YOU SILLY? YOU'LL SEE SOME OF THE CITY'S BEST MUSIC-MAKING CITIZENS PERFORM LIVE – ON ONE STAGE IN ONE NIGHT – ALL FOR $10!
Sorry about the all-caps there. This is kind of a big deal. People should know these musicians.
In addition to the music, you'll be able to also see several new art exhibits, including "Thou Shalt Kill!" at the Petshop, 2725 N. 62nd St. The exhibit will present hundreds of postcards sent to Nebraska State Legislators and religious leaders over the last six months urging them to abolish the death penalty.
