Whether you go for the fried Nutella (yeah, it's a thing), the sundae on a stick (also a thing) or the "only-at-a-state-fair" entertainment like the "Penguins of the Arctic High Diving Show," the Nebraska State Fair in Grand Island is definitely worth checking out this year.
There are numerous (read: lots, gob, tons, bazillions) of activities and things to see and eat at the Nebraska State Fair, so go to StateFair.org for the full monty. Here's a few highlights:
The Timberworks Lumberjack Show includes such events as axe throwing, chopping, log rolling, cross cut sawing, hot sawing and chainsaw carving
The Wolf Pack show presents the mystical enigmatic wolf, actually, a whole pack, performing right before your eyes
The XPOGO Stunt Team, an extreme pogo performance team that jumps over nine feet in the air on next-generation pogo sticks while throwing down flips and incredible tricks
Penguins of the Arctic High Diving Show features "penguins" (dressed as humans) diving into a pool of water from more than 80 feet above. The “fire dive” ends the ceremonies.
The Marvelous Mutts are dogs that flip and fly to snatch Frisbees out of the air, racing through obstacle courses with breathtaking speed and leaping into a pool of water
B.J. Thomas, Michael W. Smith, Terry Factor, Karmin (pictured) and Brantley Gilbert are among the concerts being presented at the fair, which runs through September 1st.
