What: Under the Sun Tour, with Smash Mouth, Sugar Ray, Gin Blossoms, Vertical Horizon, and Fastball
When: 7 p.m. Friday, July 19
Where: Stir Cove, Harrah’s Casino, Council Bluffs
They're calling it the "Under the Sun Tour," perhaps because it seems like every popular '90s band under the sun is playing it. OK, not really – but at least five hit-makers from the '90s will be on stage Friday, July 19, at Stir Cove outside of Harrah's Casino in Council Bluffs.
Leading the charge is Smash Mouth (pictured above), a So-Cal band that scored hits with "Walkin' on the Sun" and "All Star" in the late-'90s. Expect to hear those plus several of their popular covers, including "I'm A Believer" (the Monkees), "Can't Get Enough Of You Baby (Question Mark [?] & the Mysterians), and "Why Can't We Be Friends" (War).
Also topping the "Under the Sun" bill is Sugar Ray, led by singer Mark McGrath, whom you might also know from his stints on “Extra,” “Celebrity Apprentice,” “Rock & Roll Jeopardy” (three-time champ), and “American Idol.”
If you were listening to the radio in the late-'90s you'd know Sugar Ray from the band's hits "Fly," "Every Morning" and "Someday."
Rounding out the bill are the Gin Blossoms ("Hey Jealousy"), Vertical Horizon ("You're A God"), and Fastball, a great band from Austin, Texas, that scored a big '90s hit – and Grammy winner – with "The Way." Love that band.
Tickets to the 7 p.m. show Friday are $45, and are available at Ticketmaster.com (800-745-3000).
