James Medlock officially announced his candidacy at a costume party Tuesday.
Running as a Democrat, he says Omaha needs to cut back on spending and taxes. He told WOWT that the city is overtaxing it's citizens and spending money on items "it has no business buying in the first place."
Medlock also said he wants to increase staffing on the police department to shorten response times and fight the rise in gun violence.
There are five others in the Mayoral race including Jim Suttle, Councilwoman Jean Stothert, former Councilman Dan Welch, state Sen. Brad Ashford and businessman Dave Nabity.
