Springtime storms on the way

It's very quiet early this Wednesday morning across the Heartland. Morning lows are bottoming out in the low to mid 40s under mostly clear skies:

Later this afternoon, as temperature climb into the mid 70s, the atmosphere will become unstable enough to form thunderstorms after about 3 or 4 PM. These storms should continue through the evening hours into the early overnight.

A potentially foggy start to Thursday & a warm one as well. Our lows tomorrow at this time will be near 60 degrees! Another opportunity for thunderstorms for Thursday Afternoon and some of these will have the potential to become severe, with hail the primary threat.

Head over to the Storm Prediction Center for details on what their forecasters think about tomorrow's potential for nasty weather.

We'll be keeping an eye on this, here in the weather office, as it may be the first widespread opportunity for severe weather this Spring for us. It does not look like a favorable tornado setup, so good news there!

Has anyone mentioned the grass fires north of Summit Lake. We saw the smoke the other night and decided to check it out. Lots of scorched earth. I'm not sure if it was a controlled burn. Also, there was several Pelicans on the lake, the sea gulls flew thru about 2 weeks ago. What a sight in Nebraska.
