I've often wished someone would just program me with the 10 to 20 phrases I repeat day after day to my children. It would save a lot of time and energy.

Here is my top ten list:

10. "Work it out" -- as in stop trying to bring me into a conflict with your siblings, work it out on your own.

9. "Look both ways" -- so you don't get hit by a car when you cross the street.

8. "Did we say you could be excused?" -- our refrain when someone jumps up after finishing his or her meal.

7. "Cover that cough" -- ditto for the sneeze.

6. "Grateful not greedy" -- as in we just stopped for ice cream and now you're asking for something else, be grateful not greedy.

5. "Bottom on the chair" -- the never ending reminder of the right way to sit so we don't end up in the ER.

4. "Who's a hit it?" -- let me know you're buckled in before I move this car.

3. "Use your words" -- it's a lot more effective for a toddler than grunts, cries, or pointing.

2. "How much do I love you?" -- the answer is always the same, with all my heart.

1. "What do you say?" -- the age old prompt to say thank you. I've actually mistakenly repeated this to adults, mortifying!

I can tell you love your kids so much, and I love mine "beyond the rainbows," but do you ever just want to change your name and not here "mom" 1,001 times a day??!! Thanks for sharing your thoughts and stories!
