I've been hoping for good weather all week. What a relief to wake up Sunday morning and see the sun, a nice day for The March of Dimes' March for Babies at Mahoney State Park. Channel Six was one of the sponsors of this year's event and what a turnout ! Thousands of families raised money to help prevent babies from being born too early.

As a family with premature twins and another child who thrived thanks to March of Dimes research, my husband and I consider it a true honor to be involved. We met so many wonderful people, and would love to hear about their experiences as well. I planned on posting a picture, but after remembering everyone's hats and gloves (just in case), Drew's stroller cover, Drew's diaper bag and food, and my script, any guesses what I forgot? Oh well, I'll have happy memories.

Now, onto an event taking place this Tuesday. Christ the King Ladies Guild is bringing Father Leo Patalinghug in for a luncheon and cooking demonstration. Father Leo is the author of a book you may have heard about, "Grace Before Meals". While Father Leo is a priest and Christ the King is a Catholic church, organizers stress this is a non-denominational event. It is all about bringing families back to the dinner table to connect. For more information, call Christ the King or check out Father Leo's website, gracebeforemeals.com

Fr. Leo's message is so important for families today. Studies show that adolescents who regularly eat dinner as a family are less likely to use drugs and tobacco, face unwanted pregnancy or have eating disorders. Fr. Leo's book is more than about recipes. It includes conversation starters to use at the dinner table and inspires all of us to make dinner as a family a priority in our busy lives. Watch for his PBS show "Grace Before Meals" once he acquires corporate sponsorship.
