Not Going to Do It…

Garage Sales…

Ever year after holding one I say it’s not worth all the work and I’ll never do it again.  Yet, here I am once again, turning my house upside down, moving items we no longer use or wear out to the garage.  That part I don’t hate because I get a lot of organizing done and it feels good to sort, purge and free up space.  The part I do hate is pricing.  Everything has to have a price tag and I have no clue how much it is worth.  Is that jacket that I use to love and paid $200 three years ago, worth $2 or $20?

I can’t believe how much stuff I have to get rid of once again.  I just had a garage sale a year ago and my garage was packed with items…and this year it’s the same.  Am I really buying that much stuff in a year?  I must be.  Although I am proud of myself, I have implemented a new rule in my life.  If I have to think twice about buying something, I don’t buy it.  If it’s not something I HAVE to have…then I pass on it.  That may seem like a simple, common sense rule, but it’s one I haven’t used in awhile.  I guess that makes me sound wasteful, but I’m really not.

Do any of you have any garage sale tips?

Garages sales really aren’t THAT bad.  The part I do love about the neighborhood garage sale is I get to see all my neighbors.  We’re all out, walking around, checking out each others junk…its all kind of fun.  And as all the garage sale signs start to pop up every where you know summertime is almost here.  Yeah!

Garage sales are fun to go to, but an awful lot of work to put one together. Maybe give it to a local church that is having a giant garage sale - sometimes they do that.

When my children were little I usually had an annual garage sale with my sister. My last sale took me three years to get organized - I had good intentions but it never happened. Then last year I had a huge sale and thought okay I'm done - the kids have moved on and the house is empty. WELL this year my sister sold her house, my kids moved to a new house and my youngest is graduating college and once again my garage is full. I will probably end up taking vacation to organize the sale but it will be worth it when my garage is empty again. With you I hate pricing and usually just hung signs which is easy when its only one family. But with several families involved guess I will have to do some pricing.

All I have to say since you are my sister is you are definitely welcome to send your "junk" to me. That time of year is always fun though and definitely something I miss now that I am oversees and I haven't seen one since I have been over here.
