In fairness to all the squirrels that have caused us problems at our home (previous blogs) I feel compelled to point out the havoc caused by rabbits. Everyone knows how those darn critters can destroy your hard work in making the yard look nice. But we had a different problem. A rabbit sabatoged our old cadillac. A number of years ago I went out on a cold snowy morning to crank up the engine to warm it up before leaving for errands. I know the reluctant sound of a motor that needs some coaxing to beat the overnight freeze and on this day it was clearly much more serious. When it finally turned over and I tried to back down the driveway, the car sputtered twice and came to a complete stop. The car wasn't going anywhere and the shocking discovery followed when I raised the hood. Rabbit fur was everywhere. At some point after I parked the old caddy after the drive home from work, that shivering rabbit climbed up into the warm engine. I'm sure it was a restful night. Not only were we "out of rest" for the next week with the inconvience of a car in the repair shop, the bill set us back just over $500. And we were reminded of budget buster every time his buddies chewed up our plants that summer. I'm over it now but still on guard. A new family of rabbits is hopping around with the warmer temperatures. Knicely done! |
