We've made numerous trips to Waco, Texas and I think this was the last one. Our son Grant completed his studies at Baylor and sealed it with a handshake over the weekend from the University President followed by the walk across stage with his diploma. While our son has mixed feelings about leaving friends and college life, my wife Sue and I are very pleased in more ways than one. Grant worked hard through a tough workload with subjects like molecular genetics, anatomy and physiology, advanced calculus, etc. Studies that are way above my comfort level, let alone interest. The good news, he earned a scholarship and retained it from start to finish. We're pleased about that too because the cost of a college education is exorbitant. It was expensive when Grant started four years ago and much more expensive when he finished. The cost went up every year. It seemed arbitrary. But it's over, and now a portion of his monthly income in the real world will go to paying off what's left on the cost of his college education. I realize he's not alone, there are many graduates faced with the same situation. With all of the discipline Grant exhibited in the classroom, I know he will retire that debt in due time. So I guess I'm sounding off with pride on his great accomplishment but with a little sour aftertaste about those semester bills. And I didn't even mention the cost of books. The resale market is the same as when I went to college. Knicely Done!
