The pre-game meal was perfect.  Four plates of eggs, bacon and cakes.  You need a full stomach for a Nebraska-Oklahoma showdown.

That serving was at 11:00 in the morning.  With a kickoff set for 7:18 in the evening, my four boys and I had plenty of time to then take in the colossal features of what locals in Dallas refer to as the "Deathstar."  Jimmy Johnson's Cowboy Stadium is all that you've heard and more, plus as you approach it from the Interstate it looms on the horizon like Darth Vader's flying fortress in Star Wars.

The stadium  was one of the reasons I put the road trip together with my four boys back in September.  We were confident Nebraska would play for the Big 12 title and the unexpected bonus was the fact it would be the last conference showdown with Oklahoma.

So  with all the buildup including the long countdown on gameday, we were psyched just like all the more than 40-thousand Husker fans who rocked the huge expanse with Husker-Power cheers.

You know the outcome and we were all disappointed too.  It's a shame Martinez wasn't at full speed for the biggest game of the year.

The boys and I rehashed the game to exhaustion so the only point I'll make here, is that the road trip was a winner.  We now own the experience together and it will be a point of reference as we all go forward.  Nebraska didn't have to win to make our family adventure a success.

We left our time together throwing out ideas for the next outing.  One thing is clear, it won't be the Holiday Bowl.  We'll enjoy that one on TV.
