The Cox Classic will soon tee off in Omaha and again we have a chance to see some of the best golfers in the world. 

Over the years I've had a chance to play with or meet a number of Nationwide players who are now competing on the PGA Tour including Bubba Watson, Daniel Chopra, Jonathan Byrd and Jeff Klauk.  

Watson is now one of the longest hitters on the PGA Tour averaging more than 300 yards per drive.  Chopra and Byrd have both won on the big tour and Klauk is one of the top rookies this season.

All four played in Omaha and there are more future superstars who will tee it up at Champions Run this year.  

Several weeks ago I had a chance to play with Ryan Hietala who won the Cox Classic last year.  He, like many others on the Nationwide Tour, is eager to talk about how much he enjoys the tour stop in Omaha.  He is impressed with the huge galleries, wonderful hospitality (he stays with the same family every year), the excellent golf course and the evening gatherings at the 19th hole.

Over the years $1.6 million dollars has been donated to charity through proceeds from the Omaha tournament.  This year thirteen different local agencies will benefit from one of the great sporting events our city has to offer.
