Bill Keck is a walking miracle. He is currently in charge of the Sienna Francis House recovery program and he can relate with those who are struggling to overcome addictions. Bill has been there himself. His book "From Addiction to Miracles" is now in it's second printing and I recommend it. Bill's personal story of overcoming his addiction to drugs and alcohol is not only inspirational, it's educational Bill shares how his faith has been instrumental in rebuilding his life and he outlines the steps that are necessary to overcome addictions. The good news is that Bill and Sienna Francis House staff members are having tremendous success in transforming lives that were hopelessly lost. There efforts are like a shining light in our community. Knicely done! |

To Sam, you must not have ever met the millions (yes, I said millions) of people who have found recovery in the 12 steps. The reason we seem to get a free ride is that our program works. It changes lives and helps make addicts and alcoholics become useful productive members of society. I can show you lots of "solid evidence". Maybe you have seen those who are constitutionally incapable of being honest with themselves, and therefore unwilling to put forth the effort that it takes to recover. Posted by: gotabetteridea? to Sam....are you an addict or alcoholic? Do you have a better solution than 12steps and AA for recovery? Sure it does not work for some people but it has for millions so to say it should be tossed aside for something better that is fine but what is that better idea? Posted by: Sam 12 step folk seem to get a free ride from the media and medical community. This approach gets the most resources from the courts and medical community but lacks any solid evidence. People whose critical reasoning skills allow them to reject testimonials as reliable evidence of anything eat up testimonials when it comes to addiction for reasons I can not fathom. Would you accept testimonials about a cure for diabetes or cancer? If your wondering why I don't just congratulate the guy and say whatever works for him must be good, its because 95% of the money, mind share, and resources go to this very flawed approach. If you ask what other approach is there? You have proven my point on the 12 step dominance in this field. 12 step meetings may not be using that many resources but the drug and alcohol treatment industry is overwhelmingly 12 step based, oxford houses,in-patient & out-patient treatment consume tons of resources but have a very low success rate.
