It seemed believable to me but my grand-boys were not convinced. This past Christmas eve I made my debut as Santa for the family gathering. The role was handed down to me from my father-in-law who for the last 25 years has surprised everyone with a sudden appearance on the night before Christmas. In my big moment, I interrupted the group sing of Rudolph with bells jingling and low-voiced Ho,Ho, Ho's. After greeting all the kids by names and handing out presents picked especially for them, I left feeling pretty good about my performance as Jolly Old St. Nick. When I later joined the family I learned that my four-year old grandson had made a curious observation to my wife Sue (Mimi). He said Santa "sounded a lot like Papa," which of course is me. Then he asked me point blank where I was when Santa paid the visit. My lame excuse clearly did not east his suspicion. To top it off, when I made my exit as Santa, my littlest grandson was told to say good-bye to Santa, and said, "good-bye Papa!" I have since resolved the situation. Rather than accept the fact my Santa impersonation was so bad, I maintain it's just that my grand-kids are so bright! Any parent or grandparent can certainly relate.
