Dave and I had a great visit recently from a delightful young man named Charles. His wish was to join us in the Channel 6 studios and spend some time at the anchor desk. Charles is a client of Mosaic, a faith-based organization serving people in Omaha with developmental disabilities. Charles lives independently in an apartment with a roommate. Sponsors from Mosaic are actively involved in Charles' day to day life. He works at Bakers near 173rd and Center and may soon be named to the Bakers Hall of Fame. What struck me about Charles is his wonderful demeanor. His eyes are bright, his smile is constant and he has a great sense of humor. Dave jokingly offered Charles some free advice for sacking groceries: "place the eggs in the bottom of the bag and stack the cans on top." Charles responded with an infectious chuckle and scolded Dave for his bad advice. During our visit, Charles delivered a mini-forecast at the weather map and passed along a few tidbits about Nebraska football at the sports monitor. His preferred seat though was at the anchor desk. It was all recorded on DVD and Charles will be able to relive his Channel 6 visit for years to come. The idea was to bless Charles with a memorable experience but in reality, Charles blessed us. If you happen to see Charles in the check out line, chances are he will bless you too. Knicely Done!
