Make it 18 years now that BP (formerly Amoco) dealers in the Omaha area have joined together to put together a golf fund raiser for Children's Hospital. It now goes by the name "Chip in For Kids" and this year it was played at the Players Club.
As WOWT anchors we've also been active over the years in supporting events designed to help Children's Hospital and this year I again had a chance to participate in the golf tournament on a par three betting hole. Actually betting is the wrong word, rather than pay for the opportunity to beat my shot, each foursome made donation to use my shot in the team competition.
Over the years the tournament has raised more than $700,000 for Children's Hospital and the sponsors and golfers added to that total with this year's event.
I've included video of some of the shots on the par three including two youngsters who borrowed one of my over-sized clubs to knock a golf ball. Ray Anderson is the oldest son of organizer Ray Anderson Jr. and five-year old Nick Anderson also took a shot. What you can't tell by looking at Nick is that he spent the first two months of his life in the Children's Neo Intensive Care Unit. Nick is a triplet and you can see now he's doing great.
His Dad and Mom are grateful for the fact Children's was there when Nick and his brothers needed special care. They're not alone in knowing what a valuable asset Children's Hospital is for our community and a five state region.
Knicely Done!
